Hey my beautiful friends, how are you doing today?
How is winter so far? Cold, colder, coldest? However it is, your skin might be the most suffering one. When people with oily skin can’t explain how dry their skins are God save the dry skinned ones. It is not funny, I know! But one thing you can do to your skin to save it from the trauma (big word? Maybe I will use the word pain?) is to moisturise. By moisturising, I mean really deeply moisturise. If you thought you need expensive and chemical-loaded creams for this purpose, then my friend, you have plenty of other options. Today I am going to talk about one such option which is super moisturising, great for you skin and you need only very few ingredients to make it which also means it is cheap and it is so much fun to make it too!
Aloe vera shea butter whipped DIY body butter
Today I have decided to talk less so let’s just jump to the ingredients used.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Shea butter (you can buy here )
- 1/2 cup C0coa butter (you can buy here )
- 1/2 cup coconut oil(you can buy here )
- 1/2 cup avocado oil/almond/olive oil (I used Avocado oil, buy avocado oil )
- 5tbsp Aloe vera gel (you can buy here )
- 15-30 drops of Essential oils (I use lemon, lime and sweet orange)
- 2tsp Vitamin E oil (optional) (you can buy here )
How to make the DIY body butter
- The first step is to melt the kinds of butter and oils. For this take a double boiler and add shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, avocado oil and Vitamin E oil in it.
- Bring to a medium flame and stir constantly. When all the ingredients are melted remove it from the flame and let it cool a little bit then add the essential oils of your choice.
- Next place this in the refrigerator and let the mixture cool, this step is very important, otherwise your body butter cannot be whipped properly. Keep it in the refrigerator for 1 hour. The right state is when the centre part is still soft but the side is hardened. That is when you know your body butter is ready to be whipped.
- Next, add aloe vera juice and using a hand mixer, whip the mixture until is becomes soft and fluffy. Keep it in the refrigerator for another 10 minutes and viola! a very luxurious body butter is ready!
- Store in a glass container.

Shelf life of the DIY body butter
This body butter stays for up to 8 weeks without refrigerating. You can also store it in the refrigerator if you like.
How to use DIY body butter
Apply a very small amount on your body. The body butter gets absorbed really fast into your skin leaving it soft and moisturised.
Some points to remember
- You can skip the Aloe vera juice if you wish and just make a normal Shea butter DIY body butter. If you are using natural aloe vera plant then scoop out the flesh and run it in the blender and then add to your mixture.
- If you don’t have a double boiler, place a glass bowl on top of a steel vessel filled with water and place it on the stove. Add the ingredients to the glass bowl.
- Shea butter needs a little more time to melt than the other ingredients.
- I have added lemon, lime and sweet orange essential oils if you are using these then remember that these oils are photosensitive hence it is not a good idea to use it during day time when out in the sun.
- Since this DIY body butter contains a lot of oils and different kind of butter, you only need to apply a very small amount. Hence a little goes a long way.
- Make sure the utensils used for whipping are dry.
I have used Aloe vera because it
- Moisturizes skin
- Reduces stretch marks
- Reduces acne
- Lighten blemishes and marks
- Heals external wounds, helps with sunburns and soothes the skin.
- Reduces tan.
The Aloe vera Shea butter whipped DIY body butter is a superiorly moisturising body butter which can be made very easily and is cheap. This is perfect for the winter season when your skin is extremely dry. You can also use this as a moisturising hair mask. Have you made body butter before? If you make this then do let me know.

This looks and sounds amazing. Is it greasy at all? Should I add some arrowroot powder or is it fine without it?
