Makeup trends come and go, but one trend which is always cool is the contouring trend and for a good reason. The best thing about contouring is that you can sculpt your face as you desire. If you think only expensive products can give you that Kardashian kind of contouring and sculpting then my friend you are wrong. There are some really awesome drugstore products that can give the same results. Talking about drugstore products, how can we not mention Nyx, Nyx is one of my favorite drugstore brands and most probably yours too! Nyx has recently come up with some really cool contouring products like the contour and highlight pro palette and wonder stick. Today I am going to talk about the latest addition to their contour line, the Nyx cream highlight and contour palette.

What I think of the Nyx cream highlight and contour palette
The Nyx cream highlight and contour palette comes in a black rectangular packaging, which definitely looks good. One side of the box is transparent which allows you to have a clear idea of the shades. The palette is available in three different shades, Light, Medium and Dark and you can choose the one that is best suited for your complexion. You already know right that you have to use one or shades darker than your skin tone for contouring and one or two shades lighter for highlighting. I am not sure if you can find your perfect shade out of the three available shades, but hopefully, you can. As far as I am concerned, Medium works for me so I chose Medium.
Each palette consists of three shades, a contour shade, a highlight which is matte and a shimmery highlight. The shades are brilliant. The texture is what you might have a problem with. The texture is soft but not really creamy or silky as they claim it to be, especially that of the matte highlight, which makes the product not so easy to blend, you can still blend though. But that is not really an issue, as we have already seen makeup queens using oils for even their Anastasia Beverly hills contour palette, so you can do the same here. I use argan oil, which already is a part of my skincare routine, you can choose any facial oils you are using. 3-4 drops will do. After adding oil, the problem of blending is solved as this thing then blends like a dream. The texture becomes so smooth and silky after adding oil.
Now speaking about the pigmentation, I feel that it is not highly pigmented but still great. You can always build it up if required. I don’t actually call it a con especially if you are new to contouring. If you are new to contouring, then there are chances of using more product and messing everything up. So this might be a boon for you as products like this work better for you. I also like the sheer contouring it does, looks natural and as I said you can build it up if you want it to be more dramatic.
Coming more specific to my shade, Medium, I love all the three shades. The contour shade is a warm brown shade and gives a beautiful contour and perfectly blends in with my skin. It blends quite ok if you don’t add oil but it is better to because adding oil makes it easier to blend. The highlight shade is also great, conceals my dark circles and highlights the areas I want to be highlighted. But you really need to add oil to work with it otherwise, it might end up being chalky and is difficult to blend. The third shade which is the shimmer gives a beautiful glow to your cheekbones, cupid’s bow, bridge of your nose, inner corner of the eye and wherever you prefer. It gives a silverish glow which is ok but I’m not really very happy about it. The shimmery particles are so minute which is nice. You don’t really have to add oil to the shimmer, but the results are awesome if you do.
I normally set it with powders and advice you to do the same for best results. The contour stays intact for 8+hours which is great.
Overall verdict
The Nyx cream highlight and contour palette is a really good contour palette. The price is really affordable. The pigmentation is not very high but perfect for a natural looking contour. It is not really blendable when used as it is, but when mixed with oil blends like a dream. Overall I think this palette is great if you are looking for a decently priced contour palette and is perfect for beginners as it is really easy to use. I give it a rating of 4.2/5 and I am sure you won’t be disappointed in the Nyx cream highlight and contour palette.
